Daisies in STEM - Egg Drop Challenge

The egg drop challenge is a classic engineering challenge for all ages. The goal is to build a contraption that would protect an egg from cracking when dropped from a certain height. This challenge is an experiment usually performed at college or university in which the egg is being dropped from a tall building. In our case, we will drop the egg from the top of a play structure.

For our challenge I gathered different materials I had in my house: plastic cups, plastic leaves, straws, pebbles, marshmallows, paper, tape, plastic bottles, Styrofoam peanuts, etc.

Each girl received a raw egg and used her imagination to build a contraption to protect her egg from cracking. This was a fun activity and it was very interesting to see the different contraptions each girl created.

Once all the eggs were safely tucked in their contraptions, it was testing time! Each girl dropped her egg from the play structure...

...most of the eggs survived the fall! Excellent work daisies :)
