Science for Preschoolers - Ladybugs
Everyone likes ladybugs, with their red color and black dots they are irresistible. They are also very beneficial insects for the garden since they eat aphids, 1,500 ladybugs are needed in order to populate a garden. Since they are used as biological pest control, some nurseries keep them in stock. I bought a box of ladybugs, took a binocular and picked some aphid-infested leaves from my garden and went to the preschool.
It was a blast!
The kids loved to hold and examine the ladybugs. Using the binoculars they could see the aphids and we talked about the food chain and how important it is to have beneficial insects in the garden.
